-Basquiat Interview Design-
This project explores experimental and maximalist design, drawing inspiration from the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. His use of primary colors, raw energy, and neo-expressionist style served as the foundation for both the visual and conceptual direction of the piece.
Concept & Process
Using mixed media, I employed basic layering techniques that echo Basquiat’s signature approach to painting. The piece is built around an interview conducted by Becky Johnston and Tamara Davis. All of Basquiat’s responses are written by hand to reflect his expressive visual language, while the interviewers' questions are typeset in Baskerville to create a clear visual distinction.
Hand-drawn shapes and textures are integrated throughout the composition, directly referencing forms and motifs found in Basquiat’s artwork. Certain excerpts from the interview are warped in size and shape to emphasize their emotional weight or thematic importance, contributing to the overall intensity and rhythm of the piece.
